Synopsis

Tess is a hard-hitting drama based on Tracey Farren’s award-winning novel Whiplash. It follows the story of Tess - in an affecting performance by South African actress Christia Visser - a Muizenberg sex worker whose life is turned upside down when she falls pregnant. It is a raw, gritty and uncompromising portrayal of Tess’s struggle to prevent her past from swallowing her whole, as she fights to overcome abuse, poverty and neglect. Meg Rickards further establishes herself as a hugely talented South African director in this painful and difficult, but ultimately hopeful and exhilarating story, a celebration of female vulnerability and strength.
