T-Junction - UK Premiere Film

Amil Shivji | Tanzania 2017 | 1h45m | Swahili with English Subtitles | 15

Synopsis

T-Junction is the story of the friendship between two young women, Fatima and Maria, who meet in the unlikely location of a hospital queue and slowly begin to share their stories. As Maria's story comes to life, we meet her friends and family, market stall owners of T-Junction in Dar-es Salaam, who experience love and laughter alongside the harsh reality of police brutality.  As Fatima's late father is Indian-Tanzanian, her story explores the themes of ethnicity and class within Tanzanian society.

Winner of the European African Film Festivals Award (co-sponsored by Africa in Motion) at the Zanzibar International Film Festival this summer, Amil Shivji's first feature-length film, with its original soundtrack and fantastic newcomer female leads, succeeds in being both funny and endearing, as well as moving and thought-provoking.

Curated by Alysha Somani as part of the Reviving Scotland’s Black History programme, supported by the Coalition of Racial Equality and Rights and funded by BEMIS Scotland via the ‘2017 Year of History Heritage and Archaeology’. This is a partnership between BEMIS Scotland and the Scottish Government to facilitate diverse, multicultural celebrations.
