Kinning Park Cabaret Event

Kinning Park Cabaret

Description

Roll up! Roll up! Join us for an evening of talent emanating from the Scottish African diaspora. We will welcome poetry performances by Zimbabwean Tawona Sithole and music from Heir of the Cursed, both exploring African diaspora identity in Scotland through their work. The performances will be interspersed with delicious African food served up by Küche. In between will be followed by a screening of The Crying Conch, a short film taking us on a journey between the past and the present. It follows a man who is drawn into the footsteps of the historic Haitian slave leader, Mackandal, as he becomes trapped in a curse that was invoked centuries ago. The film is a modern fable that connects the past with the resilience of the present.
